University of Chester Hosts Warrington Pride Event at Time Square

8 June 2024
10:00 am - 3:30 pm

The University of Chester is set to host a Warrington Pride event at University Centre Warrington, Time Square, on Saturday, June 8, as part of the vibrant celebrations for Pride Month. This exciting event, running from 10am to 3.30pm, promises a day filled with art, talks, and community activities.

Visitors will have the chance to get hands-on with a variety of creative sessions, including the opportunity to make banners and badges for the parade, as well as other engaging arts and crafts activities. These sessions are designed to encourage self-expression and community participation, allowing everyone to contribute to the colourful celebration of Pride.

The event will also feature a series of inspiring talks and poetry readings as part of their Speakers Corner. Attendees can look forward to hearing from a Warrington-based poet and writer, the lead trustee of Liverpool Pride, and one of the University’s postgraduate students. These speakers will share their experiences and insights, fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of persity and inclusion within the community.

Culture Warrington will host a number of sessions in the University on the day as part of their Pride programme including:

Place to Pause – Conversation Space (10am to 3:30pm) – a quieter place to really get those thoughts wondering. With stimulating creative activities, displayed consultation feedback, and a bundle of opportunities to discuss thoughts, as a group or as an inpidual, this is a welcoming, friendly and safe space to take that much needed deep breath.

I put my love in your hands by Rachael Pirie (10am – 3:30pm) – An audio walking tour about identity, sexuality and what it means to hold hands with a stranger. The performance debuted earlier this year in Lancaster and is now coming to Warrington, featuring all new voices and participants from the Warrington queer community. On the day of Warrington Pride, people will have the chance to receive their headphones and player to pe into the world of hand holding. If that isn’t for you, then a QR code will be available to listen to when you wish. Just don’t forget your headphone and phone with internet access.

Guests will also have the opportunity to tour the University Centre Warrington’s Time Square building. During the tour, visitors can stop by various stalls to chat with staff and learn more about the University’s programmes and community initiatives.

The Warrington Pride event at Time Square is free to attend, making it accessible for everyone to join in the celebration. For more information and to book your free place, please visit the booking link.

Professor Hannah Bacon, the lead organiser of the event, said: “We’re delighted to play a key role in Warrington Pride 2024 as it returns to the town centre this June, with a renewed focus on persity and community inclusion.”
