Warrington’s Lunar New Year celebrations are set to return on Saturday, February 8th and Sunday, February 9th, with Time Square as the key destination for all the action.

The town centre will come alive with a packed programme of performances, workshops and activities, offering a vibrant celebration of culture, colour and entertainment for all ages.

Marking the Year of the Snake, this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, and Time Square will be at the heart of the festivities. It will host a series of exciting performances, including Liverpool’s Hung Gar Kung Fu School, who will present their iconic lion and dragon dance alongside a high-energy martial arts demonstration. These performances will be accompanied by a lively atmosphere of live music, K-Pop dance displays and more.

In addition, Time Square will also be home to hands-on activities like QiGong sessions provided by Movema, providing plenty for visitors to see and do throughout the weekend.

Across the town centre, there will be other events to enjoy, including performances at Golden Square, Warrington Museum and Art Gallery and Central Library. Time Square will be one of the festival’s key hubs, with the most exciting and engaging activities taking place throughout the weekend.

On Saturday, visitors can head to Warrington Museum and Art Gallery and Central Library, where family activity days will take place from 11am to 2pm. These family-friendly sessions will feature crafts, trails and refreshments in a relaxed setting.

Councillor Tony Higgins from Warrington Borough Council said: “The Lunar New Year celebrations offer a fantastic opportunity for Warrington to come together and celebrate this cultural tradition. It’s amazing to see the event growing year on year, and we are proud to collaborate with our partners to bring it to life for the local community and visitors alike.”

The event has grown in popularity over the years, with increasing numbers of residents, families and visitors coming to Warrington to share in the Lunar New Year festivities. From live performances to family-friendly workshops, the festival offers a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere for people of all ages to enjoy.

It is free to attend and is delivered through a partnership between Warrington Borough Council, Warrington BID, Golden Square Shopping Centre and Warrington Market.

Amy Dawber, Project Manager for Warrington BID, added: “Lunar New Year has become a major event for Warrington, and this year, we’re proud to focus on Time Square as the heart of the celebrations. We can’t wait to bring visitors a weekend full of culture, connection and fun right in the heart of our town centre.”

Supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the festival celebrates Warrington’s growing cultural diversity, providing an opportunity for both residents and visitors to experience the traditions of Lunar New Year.
